Engineering Design
From ambitious idea to working hardware.

I’m Nick Reimnitz, a mechanical engineer specializing in early-stage product development, with a focus on biotech instrumentation, consumables, and automation. Over the past decade, my system design and hands-on prototyping have helped companies raise over $370M in early-stage funding. I hold multiple patents across biotech and consumer electronics, and I do my best work where science meets engineering.
What I help with
Design & development
- Mechanical system design
- Biotech instrumentation and consumables
- Bioreactor design and builds
- Cell culture and cell-based process development
- Injection-molded plastic part and consumable design
- Automation and fixture development
Prototyping & strategy
- Rapid prototyping of electromechanical systems
- Feasibility scoping and technical consulting
- In-house workshop for fast-turn parts and builds
Selected work
- Cellares: co-invented the CellShuttle cell therapy manufacturing platform and led its bioreactor and consumable
- Hexagon Bio: lab automation fixtures and bioreactor hardware
- Apple: antenna test fixtures and a patent on the iPhone 6 hybrid slot antenna
- Carbine Coffee: co-founded and built an automated roaster that helped secure a $7M seed round
- Zyomyx: an electricity-free centrifuge for field diagnostics
How it works
- Get in touch. Tell me about the problem you’re trying to solve.
- Scope it. We define goals, constraints, and what success looks like, including whether it’s feasible.
- Design and prototype. I move quickly from concept to CAD to working hardware, often built in my own shop.
- Hand off or keep building. You get the designs, documentation, and prototypes to take the next step.
